macedon ranges wine tour

Relaxed, personalised tours to the Macedon Ranges that includes Cobaw Ridge, Hanging Rock, Curly Flat and Gisborne Peak Wineries. We've selected certain wineries for what we believe they bring to the day's experience, however if you have any particular wineries you'd like to visit, please advise us.

After departing at 9.30am you'd travel out to the family owned and operated Cobaw Ridge Winery. Tucked away in a corner of the State Forest, this is one of the most idyllic settings in the district. The harshness of the surrounding countryside, covered with granite boulders belies the superb wines that are produced here. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz-Viognier and an Italian varietal Lagrein are all made from estate grown fruit. Cheese and biscuits would accompany the tasting and audience with the owners, Alan & Nelly Cooper.

A short drive away along dirt roads and bushland is the Hanging Rock Winery at Newham. One of the highest elevated vineyards in the district, there's superb views across to the Rock as well as Mt Macedon. The region's largest producer, they source estate grown fruit as well as grapes from numerous regions and with that selection offer something for most tastes. Their flagship wine is the sparkling Macedon.

Nearby is the homely Glen Erin Vineyard where a delightful lunch would be enjoyed. A small producer, their flagship wine is the Mystic Park Sparkling Macedon. Chardonnay, Gewurtztraminer and Pinot Noir complement the range.

After lunch, it's a short drive to the Curly Flat Vineyard in Lancefield. Situated 550 metres above sea level, Curly Flat is a small family operation dedicated to nurturing the best possible fruit from the superb terroir and turning that fruit into the highest quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio it is possible to produce.

The final winery to be visited would be the Gisborne Peak Vineyard at South Gisborne. The enthusiasm of owners Bob & Barbara Nixon is infectious and the welcome they extend is one of warmth. You can be assured of knowing more about wine when you leave than you did when you arrived.
